Species evenness and life-form evenness also showed a negative relationship with increasing phytomass accumulation. Phytomass accumulation was positively associated with both soil nitrogen and rainfall, and negatively associated with tree cover. Conclusions: Competitive dominance is a key factor regulating plant diversity in productive grassy ecosystems, but canopy disturbance is not likely to be necessary to maintain diversity in less productive systems. The results support the predictions of models of the effects of grazing on plant diversity, such as the dynamic equilibrium model, whereby the effects of herbivory are context-dependent and vary according to gradients of rainfall, soil fertility and tree cover. © 2010 International Association for Vegetation Science.]]> Wed 07 Apr 2021 13:56:14 AEST ]]> Remnant vegetation, plantings and fences are beneficial for reptiles in agricultural landscapes http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:15953 Tue 12 Apr 2022 14:49:08 AEST ]]> Higher-taxon and functional group responses of ant and bird assemblages to livestock grazing : a test of an explicit surrogate concept http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:16156 Thu 09 Jun 2022 14:35:01 AEST ]]> Change in dominance determines herbivore effects on plant biodiversity http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:13690 Thu 07 Oct 2021 15:38:10 AEDT ]]> Integrating theory into disturbance interaction experiments to better inform ecosystem management http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:15892 Mon 04 Apr 2022 12:48:17 AEST ]]> Herbivory and fire interact to affect forest understory habitat, but not its use by small vertebrates http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:15891 Mon 04 Apr 2022 12:48:10 AEST ]]> Effects of environmental variation and livestock grazing on ant community structure in temperate eucalypt woodlands http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:15888 Mon 04 Apr 2022 12:41:10 AEST ]]> Cattle grazing at Lett's Beach [picture]. http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:8925 Fri 10 Feb 2023 21:17:35 AEDT ]]>
