This suggests that fire regimes might be useful in removing mature plants and controlling seed numbers on the surface, and that subsequent native seeding of undisturbed areas may assist in the long-term management of this noxious weed. A trial was conducted to determine the effect of treatment with a plant essential oil (pine oil) to limit the seed germination and seedling emergence of G. pubescens. This trial showed that the effects of pine oil application were significant (P<0.05). Germination was completely inhibited by application of pine oil at 5% or higher concentrations directly to seeds, and seedling emergence was reduced by between 90 and 100% in pot trials. These outcomes demonstrate the potential viability of pine oil as a long-term control option for this species. In field-based experiments, control strategies including herbicide control with glyphosate, organic herbicide control with pine oil, the application of mulch, and the addition of native seeds to the available seedbank (and all possible combinations of these techniques), were tested. The study showed that one single treatment of a G. pubescens infestation without undertaking a secondary treatment is insufficient to control the G. pubescens infestation or to encourage native regeneration, but that a combined strategy, employing all the aforementioned techniques, is more effective. It is however suggested that full regeneration of the area may not be possible unless further restoration programs are instituted after the cycle of G. pubescens’ treatment has been completed. The thesis also assessed the control effects of chemical control combined with a prescribed spring burning. Assessment of the resulting aboveground vegetation of G. pubescens has shown that a combination of chemical control and late-spring burning can reduce the cover of non-native species such as G. pubescens, suggesting that this could be a useful tool in their management. Finally, this study has supported the view that the growth of G. pubescens will be significantly enhanced in a future climate with an enriched atmospheric CO2 concentration. These climatic changes will have important implications for management of this noxious weed in the future.]]> Wed 08 Nov 2017 07:26:34 AEDT ]]> Becoming "Brave and Gallant" : Decolonising the myths of Burke and Wills; Cross-cultural exchanges and the co-production of knowledge during the Victorian Exploring Expedition and the subsequent Relief Expeditions Wed 08 Nov 2017 06:56:03 AEDT ]]> A conceptual re-alignment of methodology underpinning tax effect accounting : An Australian exploration of the contemporary normalising effect Wed 08 Nov 2017 06:48:41 AEDT ]]> The contribution of sport participation to overall health enhancing physical activity levels in Australia : A population-based study Wed 08 Nov 2017 06:47:48 AEDT ]]> Australia and the Keynesian revolution Wed 08 Nov 2017 06:43:22 AEDT ]]> The life and times of Dr Hermann Beckler (1828-1914) : An Australian - Barvarian Odyssey Wed 05 Dec 2018 14:45:11 AEDT ]]> Video game classification in Australia : Does it enable parents to make informed game choices for their children Wed 04 Jul 2018 16:36:58 AEST ]]> Assessing productive soil - landscapes in Victoria using digital soil mapping Wed 04 Jul 2018 16:35:25 AEST ]]> Progressive rebels of Boy's Own Adventure? sequences and each geographically restricted. Intracluster divergences are also large, and despite the well-supported phylogeny no clear “barcode gap” (distinction between intracluster and intercluster distances) was found for three of the six NSW populations. The 28S data distinguished only four of the six COI clusters from NSW with essentially no variation within each cluster. The 28S data generally aligned well with morphological evidence, clearly identifying Heterolepisma sp. B as a distinct species, and supporting also the description of Heterolepisma sp. A even though it only appears to differ from H. sclerophylla in the number of styli. Similar genetic distances are observed in 28S data for H. sclerophylla populations from North Nowra, Glenbrook/Burralow/Nattai and Megalong, however the Broulee and Wellington populations have identical 28S sequences. The low levels of variation in 28S sequences between NSW populations accord with the lack of unambiguous morphological differences.]]> Mon 09 Jul 2018 15:51:59 AEST ]]> Governing with ignorance : Understanding the Australian food regulator’s response to nano food Mon 07 May 2018 14:51:33 AEST ]]> Using the lens of enablement to explore patients’ experiences of Nurse Practitioner care in the Primary Health Care setting Mon 07 May 2018 13:56:50 AEST ]]> Playing the ghost : ghost hoaxing and supernaturalism in nineteenth-century Victoria Fri 15 Jun 2018 12:45:57 AEST ]]> William Bailey and his haunted mansion Fri 15 Jun 2018 12:39:43 AEST ]]> Indigenous folklore of the northern Wathawurrung peoples Fri 15 Jun 2018 12:38:59 AEST ]]> Goldfields freemasonry : Decoding the past Fri 15 Jun 2018 12:38:58 AEST ]]> Thinking like a nurse Fri 15 Feb 2019 12:13:35 AEDT ]]> Preparing for success Fri 15 Feb 2019 12:13:33 AEDT ]]> Conclusion : What now?
