Traffic lights were found to be positively associated with route choice during ATS. Zebra crossings were less often present along the actual routes (walking: OR = 0.17, 95 % CI = 0.05-0.58; cycling: OR = 0.31, 95 % CI = 0.14-0.67), and streets with a high occurrence of accidents were less often used during cycling to school (OR = 0.57, 95 % CI = 0.43-0.76). Moreover, percentage of visible surface water along the actual route was higher compared to the shortest routes (walking: OR = 1.04, 95 % CI = 1.01-1.07; cycling: OR = 1.03, 95 % CI = 1.01-1.05). Discussion: This study showed a novel approach to examine built environmental exposure during active transport to school. Most of the results of the study suggest that children avoid to walk or cycle along busy roads on their way to school. © 2016 Dessing et al.]]> Wed 08 Nov 2017 06:38:40 AEDT ]]> Exceeding expectations : scaffolding agentic engagement through assessment as learning Wed 05 Dec 2018 14:59:10 AEDT ]]> Using ethical mapping for exploring two professional dilemmas in initial teacher education Wed 01 Mar 2017 14:31:29 AEDT ]]> On laughter and loss : Children's views of shared time, parenting and security post-separation Wed 01 Mar 2017 14:30:39 AEDT ]]> Injuries impair the chance of successful performance by sportspeople : A systematic review Tue 31 Oct 2017 14:05:50 AEDT ]]> The ‘hidden transcripts’ of digital natives in the peri-urban jungle : Young people making sense of their use of social/digital media Tue 30 Jan 2018 12:04:04 AEDT ]]> Thinking dispositions as a resource for resilience in the gritty reality of learning to teach Tue 29 Oct 2019 12:05:05 AEDT ]]> Effect of pre-departure culture preparation courses on student learning during international fieldwork Tue 27 Mar 2018 15:13:01 AEDT ]]> Self-care for academics: a poetic invitation to reflect and resist Tue 26 Jun 2018 10:52:36 AEST ]]> Freedom and constraint in teacher education : Reflections on experiences over time Tue 26 Jun 2018 10:47:57 AEST ]]> Ensuring implementation success: how should coach injury prevention education be improved if we want coaches to deliver safety programmes during training sessions? 94% of coaches had strongly positive attitudes towards teaching correct landing technique and >80% had strongly positive perceptions of their own control over delivering such programmes. Study quality was assessed using modified PEDro scores. Results: 19 trials were included. Four studies showed short-term benefits favouring water-based exercise over minimal control using the WOMAC pain subscale (SMD -0.53, 95% CI -0.96 to -0.10). Six studies supported a short-term benefit of land-based exercise compared to minimal control on VAS assessed pain (SMD -0.49, 95% CI -0.70 to -0.29). There were no medium (SMD -0.23, 95% CI -0.48 to 0.03) or long (SMD -0.22, 95% CI -0.51 to 0.06) term benefits of exercise therapy, or benefit of combining exercise therapy with manual therapy (SMD -0.38, 95% CI -0.88 to 0.13) when compared to minimal control. Conclusions: Best available evidence indicates that exercise therapy (whether land-based or water-based) is more effective than minimal control in managing pain associated with hip OA in the short term.
