No taekwondo or wrestling athletes were compliant. Despite low overall engagement, a large number of injuries or illness were recorded across 11 athletes who entered data—22 unique injuries, 8 unique illnesses, 30 recurrent injuries, and 2 recurrent illnesses. The most frequent injuries were to the knee in boxing (n=41) and thigh in judo (n=9). In this cohort, judo players experienced more severe, but less frequent, injuries than boxers, yet judo players sustained more illnesses than boxers. In 97.0% (126/130) of cases, athletes in this cohort continued to train irrespective of their health problems. Conclusions: Among athletes who reported injuries, many reported multiple conditions, indicating a need for health monitoring in Australian combat sports. A number of factors May have influenced engagement with the AMS, including access to the internet, the design of the system, coach views on the system, previous experiences with the system, and the existing culture within Australian combat sports. To increase engagement, there May be a requirement for sports staff to provide relevant feedback on data entered into the system. In calmer conditions (spilling waves; ≤1m; no rips/currents), caregivers were significantly more likely to report low/no drowning risk. The majority of caregivers reported that their child was at low risk of drowning in pool environments (public and home) and at flat beaches (patrolled by lifeguards or unpatrolled); moderate risk at lake, dam or lagoon; and patrolled surf beaches; and high risk at unpatrolled surf beaches. Caregivers reported water depth; type of waves; and currents/rips as environmental factors which contributed to their perceived level of risk at the beach, whilst rocks, reefs and headlands; stingers; strong winds; and water temperature were of less importance to them when judging risk. This chapter provides new insight into caregivers’ assessment of child drowning risk in diverse aquatic environments. Increased understanding of caregivers’ risk perception, coupled with understanding of factors which contribute to this perception, may guide future development of caregiver education programs and water safety campaigns which aim to reduce child drowning risk.]]> Wed 07 Apr 2021 14:00:50 AEST ]]> A test of a systems theory-based incident coding taxonomy for risk managers http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:12412 Wed 07 Apr 2021 14:00:40 AEST ]]> Acceleration, change of direction speed and agility profile of adult community level Australian football players http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:12244 Wed 07 Apr 2021 14:00:32 AEST ]]> A framework for the etiology of running-related injuries http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:12178 Wed 07 Apr 2021 14:00:28 AEST ]]> Intervention strategies used in sport injury prevention studies : A systematic review identifying studies applying the Haddon matrix http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:12077 Wed 07 Apr 2021 14:00:23 AEST ]]> Perceived injury risk among junior cricketers : A cross sectional survey http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:12064 Wed 07 Apr 2021 14:00:22 AEST ]]> From control to causation : Validating a ‘complex systems model’ of running-related injury development and prevention http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:11924 Wed 07 Apr 2021 13:57:12 AEST ]]> Trends in pediatric and adolescent anterior cruciate ligament injuries in Victoria, Australia 2005-2015 http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:11777 Wed 07 Apr 2021 13:57:03 AEST ]]> Increasing trend in the frequency of sports injuries treated at an Australian regional hospital http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:11753 Wed 07 Apr 2021 13:57:02 AEST ]]> An overview of geospatial methods used in unintentional injury epidemiology http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:11746 Wed 07 Apr 2021 13:57:01 AEST ]]> The delivery of injury prevention exercise programmes in professional youth soccer : Comparison to the FIFA 11 http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:11728 Wed 07 Apr 2021 13:57:00 AEST ]]> Injury prevention exercise programmes in professional youth soccer : Understanding the perceptions of programme deliverers http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:11727 Wed 07 Apr 2021 13:57:00 AEST ]]> The Berlin 2016 process : A summary of methodology for the 5th International Consensus Conference on Concussion in Sport http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:11724 Wed 07 Apr 2021 13:57:00 AEST ]]> Risk and protective factors for middle- and long-distance running-related injury http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:11713 /=800 m to Wed 07 Apr 2021 13:57:00 AEST ]]> The causes of injuries sustained at fitness facilities presenting to Victorian emergency departments - identifying the main culprits http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:11698 Wed 07 Apr 2021 13:56:59 AEST ]]> Reporting multiple individual injuries in studies of team ball sports : A systematic review of current practice http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:11692 1 consecutive calendar year/season; and (3) individuals were the unit of analysis. PURPOSE: To describe the subsequent injuries sustained by Australian Football League (AFL) players over 1 season, including their most common injury diagnoses. STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. METHODS: Within-player linked injury data on all date-ordered match-loss injuries sustained by AFL players during 1 full season were obtained. The total number of injuries per player was determined, and in those with >1 injury, the Subsequent Injury Classification (SIC) model was used to code all subsequent injuries based on their Orchard Sports Injury Classification System (OSICS) codes and the dates of injury. RESULTS: There were 860 newly recorded injuries in 543 players; 247 players (45.5%) sustained >/=1 subsequent injuries after an earlier injury, with 317 subsequent injuries (36.9% of all injuries) recorded overall. A subsequent injury generally occurred to a different body region and was therefore superficially unrelated to an index injury. However, 32.2% of all subsequent injuries were related to a previous injury in the same season. Hamstring injuries were the most common subsequent injury. The mean time between injuries decreased with an increasing number of subsequent injuries. CONCLUSION: When relationships between injuries are taken into account, there is a high level of subsequent (and multiple) injuries leading to missed games in an elite athlete group.]]> Wed 07 Apr 2021 13:56:58 AEST ]]> Different injury settings require different cost severity thresholds http://researchonline.federation.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:11686 Wed 07 Apr 2021 13:56:58 AEST ]]> We have the programme, what next?
