While blogs, wikis and social networking sites are enjoying high levels of attention as tools to support learning, Really Simple Syndication (RSS) remains the 'poor cousin' of these technologies in the higher education classroom, with relatively low uptake amongst educators and students. In this article, the authors argue that the affordances of RSS and content syndication can be used to deliver rich, active, social learning experiences that promote a high degree of learner personalisation, choice and autonomy. They describe a number of ways in which the potential of RSS can be exploited to transform pedagogy in ways that are congruent with emerging theories and models of learning, and that are consistent with the philosophy and ethos of Web 2.0 and networked society at large. The article concludes with a consideration of some of the issues and limitations facing the uptake and use of RSS for teaching and learning. Hydrostatic pressure effects on whey protein/lactose mixtures were recorded with subsequent analysis of their structural, molecular and glass transition properties in comparison to thermal effects at atmospheric pressure. Experimental techniques used were small deformation dynamic oscillation in shear, modulated differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and theoretical modelling of glass transition phenomena. Levels of solids ranged from 30 to 80% (w/w) in formulations with a protein/co-solute ratio of four-to-one. Addition of lactose protects the secondary conformation of the protein under application of high hydrostatic pressure. Nevertheless, pressurized protein systems are able to form three-dimensional structures due to the reduction in polymeric free volume and the development of an efficient friction coefficient amongst tightly packed particles. Systems can be seen as developing a "molten globular state", where the structural knots of pressure-treated networks remain in the native conformation but achieve intermolecular cross-linking owing to frictional contact. Furthermore, pressure treated assemblies of condensed whey protein preparations could match the viscoelasticity of the thermally treated counterparts upon cooling below ambient temperatures. That allowed examination of the physical state and morphology of a condensed preparation at 80% solids by the combined framework of reduced variables and free volume theory thus affording derivation of glass transition temperatures for pressurized and atmospheric samples. The concept of Internet of Multimedia Things (IoMT) is becoming popular nowadays and can be used in various smart city applications, e.g., traffic management, healthcare, and surveillance. In the IoMT, the devices, e.g., Multimedia Sensor Nodes (MSNs), are capable of generating both multimedia and non-multimedia data. The generated data are forwarded to a cloud server via a Base Station (BS). However, it is possible that the Internet connection between the BS and the cloud server may be temporarily down. The limited computational resources restrict the MSNs from holding the captured data for a longer time. In this situation, mobile sinks can be utilized to collect data from MSNs and upload to the cloud server. However, this data collection may create privacy issues, such as revealing identities and location information of MSNs. Therefore, there is a need to preserve the privacy of MSNs during mobile data collection. In this paper, we propose an efficient privacy-preserving-based data collection and analysis (P2DCA) framework for IoMT applications. The proposed framework partitions an underlying wireless multimedia sensor network into multiple clusters. Each cluster is represented by a Cluster Head (CH). The CHs are responsible to protect the privacy of member MSNs through data and location coordinates aggregation. Later, the aggregated multimedia data are analyzed on the cloud server using a counter-propagation artificial neural network to extract meaningful information through segmentation. Experimental results show that the proposed framework outperforms the existing privacy-preserving schemes, and can be used to collect multimedia data in various IoMT applications.
