Australian household PV adoption rates are the highest in the world and this is causing a rise in technical problems and the cost of the distribution system. This paper offers a predictive model of household PV purchases in Australia and this could be used in policy to better manage PV uptake patterns. The analysis used 1.6 million domestic PV installation decisions over 11 years from 2006 to 2017 and is statistically significant. Autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) modelling was used to reduce non-stationarity in the data and Granger Causal modelling showed the most effective policy levers are price, subsidy, business confidence and PV feed-in tariffs. This analysis develops a model of Australian PV adoption and increases understanding of consumer roles in the future electricity system. This is compared to other similar models in the literature. The key contribution is that the scale of the model creates a temporal prediction that is not in other literature. The second contribution is that the model may apply to other household energy decisions. This was measured by comparing Australian PV adoption to solar hot water adoption.

Children’s physical activity levels have decreased significantly over the past 20 - 30 years, coinciding with obesity rates reaching epidemic levels. There is little research into typically developing preschool (birth to 5 year-olds) children’s physical activity, with the majority of research focusing on children at risk of motor skill or neurological deficiencies. This review examines current research into young children’s development, especially motor development and physical activity, the effectiveness of intervention programmes for promoting children’s physical development and the various methods used to assess physical development. A decrease in children’s physical activity levels has coincided with an increase in obesity rates. Further research is needed to determine culturally and contextually appropriate and effective interventions for preschool children. Areas for further research include preschool children’s physical activity, particularly in regards to movement guidelines and requirements for this age-group and ways to overcome potential barriers to meeting physical activity requirements. Young children’s physical activity and motor skill proficiency may be an important predictor of later-life physically active behaviors. Physical literacy and physical activity interventions within early childhood education could potentially support academic skills as well as physical skills and behaviors.

Penetration of wind generation into power systems in recent years has greatly affected optimal power flow (OPF) because of the uncertain behavior of this new energy resource. In this research work, at first, a novel scenario generation approach is proposed to model wind power (WP) uncertainty. The proposed scenario generation approach includes construction of probability density function (PDF) pertaining to WP forecast error, segmentation of the PDF by an efficient clustering approach to obtain both the optimal number and the optimal arrangement of the clusters, and the generation of WP scenarios using the optimized clusters through roulette wheel mechanism. Secondly, this paper presents a new OPF framework based on DC network modeling for wind generation integrated power systems. Thirdly, a new out-of-sample analysis is presented to evaluate the long-run performance of the proposed OPF approach encountering various realizations of uncertain WPs. Finally, the performance of the proposed method for solving WP-integrated OPF problem is extensively illustrated on the IEEE 30-bus and the IEEE 118-bus test systems and compared with the performance of the deterministic method and the Weibull PDF method. These comparisons illustrate better performance of the proposed method, while it has reasonable computation times. •A new scenario generation approach is presented.•A new wind power integrated optimal power model is proposed.•A new out-of-sample analysis is presented.•The effectiveness of the proposed model is extensively illustrated.

Power density is a critical evaluation indicator of electromagnetic vibration energy harvesters and has become one of the research hotspots. Therefore, it is of great significance to establish a simple and accurate theory to optimize and guide the design of an energy harvester for power density enhancement. Indeed, an alternating magnet array has a high flux gradient, which is one of the key factors for power enhancement. Under volume constraints, the coil output power is highly related to the magnet configuration, as the latter determines the magnitude of the flux gradient as well as the total flux mutation. Motivated by this, in this paper, an electromagnetic vibration energy harvester based on a coil array and a magnet array is proposed. The magnetic field distribution of rectangular magnets is analyzed. Then, a theoretical model based on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction is derived to efficiently calculate the open-circuit voltage of coils with different numbers of magnets. After that, the optimal magnetic configuration is obtained based on the developed model without the need of measuring the parasitic damping of the energy harvester. Simulations and experiments verify the correctness of the theory. The results show that at an acceleration of 1 g and frequency of 41.2 Hz, the output power and power density reach a maximum of 3.71 mW and 106.68
