- Description: Obesity has become one of the most prevalent health problems around the world. Many obesity therapy cases need efficient management in order to be shared and utilized. Prescription management has been proved to be successful strategy in obesity management. Since a case usually contains incomplete information, this article examines probabilistic case-based reasoning (CBR) by integrating Bayesian networks (BN) with CBR and proposes a probabilistic CBR framework for obesity prescription management (PCOPM) to assist health professionals to share their experiences of obesity exercise prescription online. The PCOPM ties together CBR and BN into a unified framework that includes both obesity experience and intelligent embodiment of decision making for obesity management. The proposed approach will facilitate the research and development of intelligent web-based obesity management. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

- Description: This chapter reviews fundamentals of e-supply chain management and examines the transformation from the traditional supply chains to the e-supply chains (e-SC). This chapter applies experience management (EM) and experience-based reasoning (EBR) to intellegent agents in the e-SC and explores how to use experience in extablishing trust in other agents. The role of trust and deception in supply chains for real-time enterprises is discussed, and a logical framework for fraud and deception is explained in this chapter. EBR is considered as a way to manage trust in the supply network. This chapter explores cooperation and negotiation, trust and deception in e-supply chains by providing methodologies and intelligent techniques for multiagent trust, negotiation, and deception in an e-SC. Finally, a unified model is developed for integrating cooperation and negotiation, trust and deception in e-supply chains. Although primarily theoretical, the chapter highlights new areas of research which will impact supply chain management.

- Description: Securing a cloud network is an important challenge for delivering cloud services to enterprise clouds. There are a number of secure network protocols, such as VPN protocols, currently available, to provide different secure network solutions for enterprise clouds. For example, PPTP, IP Sec, and SSUFLS are the most widely used VPN protocols in today's securing network solutions. However, there are some significant challenges in the implementation stage. For example, which VPN solution is easy to deploy in delivering cloud services? Which VPN solution is most user-friendly in enterprise clouds? This chapter explores these issues by implementing different VPNs in a virtual cloud network environment using open source software and tools. This chapter also reviews cloud computing and cloud services and looks at their relationships. The results not only provide experimental evidence but also facilitate the network implementers in deployment of secure network solutions for enterprise cloud services.

- Description: Treatment refers to the therapy to treat a disease or a health issue. Treatment in this situation is similar to medical treatment which mainly uses medicines in an attempt to relieve the pain or even stop the disease. However, medicines themselves could not entirely cure the disease (in this case, diabetes), the patients will need more intervention which will be introduced in the next section. In most of documents for diabetic treatment, insulin therapy may be the main factor, however it would seem that diabetic patient needs more than just insulin. Therefore, TCM – traditional Chinese medicine – is recommended in the diabetic treatment as a lot of its remedies not only adjust insulin but also maintain good health for the patients. This section presents some of the TCM remedies to treat diabetes. As mentioned, diabetic patients are treated by lifestyle intervention and insulin therapy according to their diabetic status. The prevalence of diabetes and its complications leads to the requirement of treatment and care plan. Guidelines for T2D treatment indicated the following primary areas: lifestyle improvement which involves at least two and half hours of physical operations every week, dietary plan which decreases the fat intake, and weight management which requires weight loss approximately 7% of the baseline weight; cardiovascular risk factor reduction by managing blood pressure, cholesterol level, control smoking status, hypertension; and blood glucose management such as mono-therapy methods using oral medications to reduce A1c levels (Ripsin, Kang, & Urban, 2009). Self-monitoring of blood glucose levels for T2D treatment is also suggested. The self-monitoring of blood glucose method is recommended because it could enhance the patients’ self-consciousness of managing their diabetic status and require greater behaviours, responsibilities and efforts. Besides, this method is cost-effective in long term for diabetic complications treatment (Szymborska-Kajaneka, Psureka, Heseb, & Strojek, 2009). Another related study recommended that for T2D patients who are using insulin, self-monitoring of blood glucose should be carried out daily at least three times; and for patients without insulin usage the frequency of blood glucose self-monitoring should be adjusted individually (Varanauskiene, 2008). Both studies indicate that there have been controversies whether self-monitoring of blood glucose is useful for T2D patients without insulin treatment. We recommend traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) as the major medicine for treating diabetes according to a report of natural Chinese medicines (Li, Zheng, Bukuru, & Kimpe, 2004) which indicates the results from many cases in various research and medical activities.

- Description: Web services are playing an important role in successful business integration and other application fields such as e-commerce and e-business. Multiagent systems and soft computing are intelligent technologies that have drawn an increasing attention in web services. This chapter examines decision making in multiagent web services based on soft computing. More specifically, it proposes a unified multilayer architecture, SESS, and an intelligent system architecture, WUDS. The SESS unifies e-services, web services and infrastructure services into an integrated hierarchical framework. The WUDS aims at implementing decision making in multiagent web services based on soft computing and implementation strategies. Both architectures tie together methodologies such as multiagent system, soft computing techniques such as case-based reasoning (CBR), fuzzy logic and their applications in web services into a unified framework that includes both logical and intelligent embodiment of decision making in web services. The chapter also proposes demand-driven web service lifecycle for service providers, brokers and requesters taking into account their decision making. Finally, the chapter explores unified case-based web services for discovery, composition and recommendation based on fuzzy logic. The proposed approach will facilitate the research and development of web services, e-services, intelligent systems and soft computing. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

- Description: GIT and GIS have a significant impact on the undergraduate and postgraduate programs offered in universities in Australia. Further, how to teach IT and IS to international students has been becoming a significant issue for IT and IS programs offered in Australia, in particular in the context of a fiercely competitive market of international students and in the context of GIT and GIS. However, these topics have not drawn the attention of academic researchers so far. This chapter will fill this gap by examining the impact of global information technology on universities in Australia in such areas as curriculum development, textbooks and teaching, and looking at some issues in teaching information technology and information systems to international students from different countries with different IT and IS backgrounds based on the author’s working and teaching experience in three different universities in Australia. This chapter also makes a daring prediction for the impact of GIT on international education in Australia and proposes a few viable strategies for resolving some issues facing international education for IT and IS in Australia. The proposed approach is very useful for research and development of GIT and GIS as well as for IT/IS programs in Australian universities.

- Description: Web services are Internet-based application components published using standard interface description languages and universally available via uniform communication protocols (Singh & Huhns, 2005). Web services can be also considered the provision of services over electronic networks such as the Internet and wireless networks (Rust & Kannan, 2003). Web services is a new computing paradigm that has drawn increasing attention in information technology (Deitel, et al, 2004, p.13), information systems, and is playing a pivotal role in service computing and service intelligence (Singh & Huhns, 2005). Web services is a new business paradigm that is playing an important role in e-business, ecommerce and business intelligence (Wang, et al, 2006). The key motive for the rapid development of web services is the ability to discover services that fulfil users’ demands, negotiate service contracts and have the services delivered where and when the users request them (Tang, et al, 2007). The current research trend is to add intelligent techniques to web services to facilitate discovery, invocation, composition, and recommendation of web services (Wang, et al, 2006)

- Description: The concept of friend and friendship are critical to both theoretical and empirical studies of social relations, social media and social networks. Measuring the closeness among friends is a big issue for developing online social networking services (SNS) such as Facebook. This paper will address this issue by proposing a technique for ranking friendship closeness in SNS. The technique consists of an algorithm for ranking need-driven friendship closeness and an algorithm for behaviour-based friendship closeness in online social networking sites. The former is based on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, while the latter is based on behaviours of users on Facebook and TOPSIS. Examples provided illustrate the viability of the proposed algorithms. The research in this paper shows that ranking friendship closeness will facilitate understanding of needs and behaviours of friends and of friendships in SNS. The proposed approach will facilitate research and development of social media, social commerce, social networks, and SN
