- Abstract
- Research into public service ethics is a growing field, but its progress has only fitfully been systematic. Developments in one area (e.g., public service motivation) have outstripped developments in other areas (e.g., the impact of different regulatory regimes over time). Similarly, certain approaches (e.g., descriptive country comparisons) have proved more popular than others (e.g., rich ethnographic research on single-case studies). This article examines the contribution that discourse analysis could make to research in public service ethics, exploring its use in organizational studies and arguing that it can enable researchers and practitioners to examine traditional issues in new ways and to explore new issues.
