- Description: In this paper, a novel sharp Augmented Lagrangian-based global optimization method is developed for solving constrained non-convex optimization problems. The algorithm consists of outer and inner loops. At each inner iteration, the discrete gradient method is applied to minimize the sharp augmented Lagrangian function. Depending on the solution found the algorithm stops or updates the dual variables in the inner loop, or updates the upper or lower bounds by going to the outer loop. The convergence results for the proposed method are presented. The performance of the method is demonstrated using a wide range of nonlinear smooth and non-smooth constrained optimization test problems from the literature.

- Description: This paper aims to solve a class of CEC benchmark constrained optimization problems that have been widely studied by nature-inspired optimization algorithms. Based on canonical duality theory, these challenging problems can be reformulated as a unified canonical dual problem over a convex set, which can be solved deterministically to obtain global optimal solutions in polynomial time. Applications are illustrated by some well-known CEC benchmark problems, and comparisons with other methods have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed approach. © 2014, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

- Description: The Remez penalty and smoothing algorithm (RPSALG) is a unified framework for penalty and smoothing methods for solving min-max convex semi-infinite programing problems, whose convergence was analyzed in a previous paper of three of the authors. In this paper we consider a partial implementation of RPSALG for solving ordinary convex semi-infinite programming problems. Each iteration of RPSALG involves two types of auxiliary optimization problems: the first one consists of obtaining an approximate solution of some discretized convex problem, while the second one requires to solve a non-convex optimization problem involving the parametric constraints as objective function with the parameter as variable. In this paper we tackle the latter problem with a variant of the cutting angle method called ECAM, a global optimization procedure for solving Lipschitz programming problems. We implement different variants of RPSALG which are compared with the unique publicly available SIP solver, NSIPS, on a battery of test problems.

- Description: In this paper, we establish a continuous selection theorem and use it to derive five equivalent results on the existence of fixed points, sectional points, maximal elements, intersection points and solutions of variational relations, all in topological settings without linear structures. Then, we study the solution existence of a number of optimization-related problems as examples of applications of these results: quasivariational inclusions, Stampacchia-type vector equilibrium problems, Nash equilibria, traffic networks, saddle points, constrained minimization, and abstract economies.

- Description: The paper contains some new results and a survey of some known results related to auxiliary (Lagrange-type) functions in constrained optimization. We show that auxiliary functions can be constructed by means of two-step convolution of constraints and the objective function and present some conditions providing the validity of the zero duality gap property. We show that auxiliary functions are closely related to the so-called separation functions in the image space of the constrained problem under consideration. The second part of the paper (see Evtushenko et al., General Lagrange-type functions in constrained global optimization. Part II: Exact Auxiliary functions. Optimization Methods and Software) contains results related to exact auxiliary functions. © 2001 OPA (Overseas Publishers Association) N.V. - Description: This paper is a continuation of [13]. For each constrained optimization problem we consider certain unconstrained problems, which are constructed by means of auxiliary (Lagrange-type) functions. We study only exact auxiliary functions, it means that the set of their global minimizers coincides with the solution set of the primal constrained optimization problem. Sufficient conditions for the exactness of an auxiliary function are given. These conditions are obtained without assumption that the Lagrange function has a saddle point. Some examples of exact auxiliary functions are given. © 2001 OPA (Overseas Publishers Association) N.V.
