Description: The understandings which children have of Indigenous identity provide means by which to explore the ways in which Indigenous identity is both projected and constructed in society. These understandings play a powerful part in the ways in which Indigenous peoples are positioned in the mainstream society with which they are connected. The research presented in this edited collection uses children’s drawings to illuminate and explore the images children, both mainstream and Indigenous, have of Indigenous peoples. The data generated by this process allows exploration of the ways in which Indigenous identity is understood globally, through a series of locally focussed studies connected by theme and approach. The data serves to illuminate both the space made available by mainstream groups, and aspects of modernity accommodated within the Indigenous sense of self. Our aim within this project has been to analyse and discuss the ways in which children construct identity, both their own and that of others. Children were asked to share their thoughts through drawings which were then used as the basis for conversation with the researchers. In this way the interaction between mainstream modernity and traditional Indigenous identity is made available for discussion and the connection between children’s lived experiences of identity and the wider global discussion is both immediately enacted and located within broader international understandings of Indigenous cultures and their place in the world.

This volume presents concepts, policies and cost models for various long-term warranty and maintenance contracts. It offers several numerical examples for estimating costs to both the manufacturer and consumer. Long-term warranties and maintenance contracts are becoming increasingly popular, as these types of aftersales services provide assurance to consumers that they can enjoy long, reliable service, and protect them from defects and the potentially high costs of repairs. Studying long-term warranty and service contracts is important to manufacturers and consumers alike, as offering long-term warranty and maintenance contracts produce additional costs for manufacturers / service providers over the product{u2019}s service life. These costs must be factored into the price, or the manufacturer / dealer will incur losses instead of making a profit. On the other hand, the buyer / consumer needs to weigh the cost of maintaining it over its service life and to decide whether or not these policies are worth purchasing. There are a number of complexities involved in developing failure and cost models for these policies due to uncertainties concerning the service life, usage pattern, maintenance work and long-term costs of rectifications. Mathematical models for predicting failures and expected costs for various one-dimensional long-term warranty policies are developed at the system level and analyzed by taking into account the uncertainties in connection with longer coverage periods and the rectification costs over the warranty period. Failures and costs are modeled using stochastic techniques and illustrated by means of numerical examples for estimating costs to the manufacturer and consumer. Various rectification policies are proposed and analyzed. The models developed here can be used to aid in managerial decisions on purchasing products with long-term warranty policies and maintenance contracts or outsourcing maintenance.

Description: James McKain Meek was one of nineteenth-century Australia's great eccentrics. Arriving in the colonies in the 1830s, he ran a sly grog operation on the Ballarat goldfields, set up a cured fish business at Warrnambool, and managed a spa resort in New Zealand, but he is memorable today for the enormous, intricate drawings he produced throughout his career. A skilled draughtsman, he delighted in exercising his skill in miniature penmanship to produce a series of massive commemorative wall hangings and tables, celebrating aspects of local or colonial history or the achievements of particular families. He turned the production of printed versions of these drawings into a business operation, with varying success. This exhibition is curated by Joan Luxemburg, who is writing a PhD thesis on the life and work of this fascinating artist, and is accompanied by an illustrated scholarly catalogue.

It is thought to be particularly timely due to the current 'state of play' of virtual world adoption and use across the tertiary education sector globally (see, for example, Dalgarno, Gregory, Carlson, Lee, & Tynan, 2012; de Freitas, 2008; Kelton, 2007; Kirriemuir, 2010a, 2010b, 2012). For several years, there was a great deal of hype surrounding the use of virtual worlds in academia for learning, teaching, research, and student support.
