The growth of databases in the healthcare domain opens multiple doors for machine learning and artificial intelligence technology. Many medical devices are available in the medical field however, medical errors remain a severe challenge. Different algorithms are developed to identify and solve medical errors, such as detecting anomalous readings, anomalous health conditions of a patient, etc. However, they fail to answer why those entries are considered an anomaly. This research gap leads to an outlying aspect mining problem. The problem of outlying aspect mining aims to discover the set of features (a.k.a subspace) in which the given data point is dramatically different than others. In this paper, we present a framework that detects anomalies in healthcare data and then provides an explanation of anomalies. This paper aims to effectively and efficiently detect anomalies and explain why they are considered anomalies by detecting outlying aspects. First, we re-introduced four anomaly detection techniques and outlying aspect mining algorithms. Then, we evaluate the performance of anomaly detection techniques and choose the best anomaly detection algorithm. Later, we detect the top k anomaly as a query and detect their outlying aspect. Lastly, we evaluate their performance on 16 real-world healthcare datasets. The experimental results show that the latest isolation-based outlying aspect mining measure, SiNNE, has outstanding performance on this task and has promising results.

We investigated (1) the relationship between Type D personality, stress intensity appraisal of a self-selected stressor, coping, and perceived coping effectiveness and (2) the relationship between Type D personality and performance. In study one, 482 athletes completed the Type D personality questionnaire (DS14), stress thermometer and MCOPE in relation to a recently experienced sport stressor. Type D was associated with increased levels of perceived stress and selection of coping strategies (more emotion and avoidance coping) as well as perceptions of their effectiveness. In study two, 32 participants completed a rugby league circuit task and were assessed on pre-performance anxiety, post-performance affect and coping. Type D was associated with poorer performance (reduced distance more errors), decreases in pre-performance self-confidence and more use of maladaptive resignation/withdrawal coping. Findings suggest that Type D is associated with maladaptive coping and reduced performance. Type D individuals would benefit from interventions related to mood modification or enhancing interpersonal functioning.

Snapchat is emerging as a popular image-based instant messaging service. Aiming to provide the first insight into the characteristics of Snapchat users, this study (N = 235) drew on the limited existing Snapchat research base, uses and gratifications theory, and other social media research to derive a range of research questions about Snapchat users vs. non-users. As hypothesised, Snapchat users were younger, placed significantly more importance on social connectedness than non-users, reported significantly greater reliance on graphics in communication, were more likely engage with technology regularly, had greater comfort with technological multitasking, and showed a stronger preference for online social interaction than non-users. However, in contrast to predictions, a desire for instantaneous interaction and reward was not significantly associated with Snapchat use. The findings are considered in terms of a proposed research agenda, including relevant theoretical paradigms (such as belongingness, technology acceptance, psycholinguistic, and semiotic theories) and applied outcomes (such as social capital and communication). This chapter outlines a case study of the application of the neo-positivist paradigm in the higher education research field. A small scale evaluative study of an attempt to improve teaching and learning provides the case study. The neo-positivist paradigm involves the objective investigation of an aspect of reality, providing provisional, contemporary understanding of patterns and entities. The ways in which this paradigm informed the research desgin, methodology, and the interpretation of results in a small-scale evaulative study are discussed. The study represents an attempt to conduct a rigorous empirical research project that incorporated random allocation to intervention and control groups; pre- and post-intervention measures of teaching and learning and the use of psychometrically sound measurement tools and qualitative data. The ways in which the ontology. axiology and epistemology of the neo-positivist paradigm impacted on the study and its findings are outlined.

Compiling, deploying and utilising large-scale databases that integrate environmental and economic data have traditionally been labour- and cost-intensive processes, hindered by the large amount of disparate and misaligned data that must be collected and harmonised. The Australian Industrial Ecology Virtual Laboratory (IELab) is a novel, collaborative approach to compiling large-scale environmentally extended multi-region input-output (MRIO) models.The utility of the IELab product is greatly enhanced by avoiding the need to lock in an MRIO structure at the time the MRIO system is developed. The IELab advances the idea of the "mother-daughter" construction principle, whereby a regionally and sectorally very detailed "mother" table is set up, from which "daughter" tables are derived to suit specific research questions. By introducing a third tier - the "root classification" - IELab users are able to define their own mother-MRIO configuration, at no additional cost in terms of data handling. Customised mother-MRIOs can then be built, which maximise disaggregation in aspects that are useful to a family of research questions.The second innovation in the IELab system is to provide a highly automated collaborative research platform in a cloud-computing environment, greatly expediting workflows and making these computational benefits accessible to all users.Combining these two aspects realises many benefits. The collaborative nature of the IELab development project allows significant savings in resources. Timely deployment is possible by coupling automation procedures with the comprehensive input from multiple teams. User-defined MRIO tables, coupled with high performance computing, mean that MRIO analysis will be useful and accessible for a great many more research applications than would otherwise be possible. By ensuring that a common set of analytical tools such as for hybrid life-cycle assessment is adopted, the IELab will facilitate the harmonisation of fragmented, dispersed and misaligned raw data for the benefit of all interested parties.
