- Abstract
- Lamprothamnium J. Groves is a genus in the family Characeae, members of which grow in brackish and saline waterbodies in Europe and Asia in the Northern Hemisphere, as well as in Africa and Australasia in the Southern Hemisphere. The plants grow completely submerged in water and form the basis of food webs in waterbodies where they can be the main form of macrophytic vegetation (Porter 2007).
