  • Description: Blasting constitutes an essential component of the mining and construction industries. However, the associated nuisances, particularly blast vibration, have emerged as significant concerns that pose threats to operational stability and the safety of the surrounding areas. Given the increasing emphasis on sustainability, ecological responsibility, safety, and geo-environmental practices, the impact of blast vibration has garnered heightened attention and scrutiny. Nevertheless, the field still lacks comprehensive phase analysis studies. Therefore, it is imperative to elucidate the research progress on blast vibration and discern its current frontiers of investigation. To address this need, this study employs bibliometric methods and the CiteSpace 6.1.R2 software to analyze 3093 papers from the Web of Science database. Through this comprehensive analysis, the study aims to chronicle the developmental trajectory, assess the present research status, and identify future trends in the field of blast vibration. The findings of this study reveal that research on “blasting vibration” is advancing rapidly, with the number of citations exhibiting a J-shaped growth curve over time. China emerges as the leading contributor to this research, followed by India, and the foremost institution in this field is Central South University in China. Cluster analysis identifies the effects of ground vibration, numerical simulation, blast load, blasting vibration and rockburst hazard as the most prominent research areas presently. The primary research directions in this domain revolve around the rock fragmentation, compressive strength, particle swarm optimization, and ann. The emergence of these keywords underscores a dynamic shift towards a more holistic and multidisciplinary approach in the field of blasting-induced ground vibration. Furthermore, this study provides a concise overview of blast vibration, discusses prediction techniques, and proposes measures for its control. Additionally, the discussion delves into the social significance of intelligent blasting systems within the context of artificial intelligence, aiming to address the hazards associated with blast-induced ground vibrations. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Language and the built, natural, social, and symbolic environments during bad news conversations for people with a life-limiting illness : a case study methodology

  • Description: Background Bad news of a life-limiting illness is devastating to receive and remains a difficult conversation for healthcare professionals to undertake, despite education and training. Bad news conversations occur anywhere along an illness trajectory and often take place with the acute ward that is busy, sterile, and unfamiliar to patients and family members. Method A qualitative case study research methodology was used to explore the case, being the phenomenon of receiving bad news of a life-limiting illness for people living in regional Victoria, Australia. The literature was examined to understand the physical hospital environment and truth disclosure within bad news delivery. Data was collected between November 2021 and August 2022, through 14 semi-structured interviews with patients and family members, 13 semi-structured interviews with registered nurses, a three week observation period at a private regional hospital. The theoretical framework of Therapeutic Landscapes enabled the built, nature, social, and symbolic environments to be examined. Data was analysed using reflexive thematic analysis and qualitative content analysis. Results A review of the literature resulted in the development of the "SSAFER place approach" concept model and found that patients need to feel safe in the hospital environment and that safety is equated with space for family and familiar notions of home. Nurses aimed to provide holistic person-centred through therapeutic relationships with patients and family members and create a home-life environment. It was found that a calm and quiet environment was essential for absorbing bad news, and patients and family members believed the way bad news was delivered, and the language used often needed to be improved. The audit of 17 family meeting s highlighted that death and dying language was rarely documented, and late referrals to palliative care services often occurred. The "Breaking bad news model," created from a second literature review supported the results of the thesis. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, patients, family members and nurses were negatively affected, creating a non-therapeutic social environment. Conclusion For patients and family members, a therapeutic landscape comprised of therapeutic relationship, open, honest and empathetic language delivered within holistic person-centred care. In addition, care needed to be provided within a calm and quiet environment to allow absorption and processing of bad news. Nurses providing palliative care aimed to meet patients and family needs holistically within an environment aesthetically tuned to be more home-like than clinical.

  • Description: Tertiary level midwifery educational pathways to achieve registration as a midwife vary in Australia, with a shift from the hospital to the university sector more than 20 years ago. These pathways are often referred to in the workforce setting to distinguish midwives with different academic backgrounds. To discuss the genesis of midwifery education in the Australian setting and explore the impact of the language used to describe the educational backgrounds on the professional identity of midwives. Strong tertiary and regulatory governance exists to support the robust development of midwifery educational programmes and to ensure a high-quality, woman-centred workforce. Once registered, all midwives have the same skill set to provide care to women and families. However, separatist language is often used to describe midwives according to their educational background which has a propensity to reduce positive midwifery identity and influence continuing workforce attrition rates. Positive expression of midwifery identity, using a strength discourse and an inclusive workforce have the ability to strengthen job satisfaction and intention to remain in the profession. Midwifery education can occur through several pathways however once registered, all midwives are equal.

Beyond its semantic role, text also plays an important syntactical or formal part in the paintings’ aesthetic - one in which chance, process and facture all figure prominently. Geoff Wallis was formerly an academic, lecturing in Art History at Federation University, Ballarat, and has curated significant exhibitions and written extensively on art and artists. Tribological behaviour plays a significant role in influencing friction and wear, and in turn, the life of these parts. There are issues and challenges in understanding the tribological aspects and behaviour of machine components by maintenance professionals so that informed decisions can taken to improve performance and productivity. An understanding of tribology helps in developing and applying the tools and techniques necessary for better maintenance. In recent years, remote performance monitoring (RPM), internet of things (IoT), machine learning, artificial intelligence and data analytics have made a significant contribution to maintenance and asset management. This paper reviews the tribological aspects related to maintenance, reliability and asset management. The findings of this study will be useful to engineers and managers to understand and appreciate the relationship between tribology, maintenance, reliability and availability for better asset management.   • Description: The effective management of wetlands requires a sound policy foundation that recognises the full range of states through which a wetland may pass, the drivers of change and their periodicity, and the trajectory of present change relative to past conditions. A management plan should suit the local requirements, and be as large or complex as is required for any specific site. While the format and presentation of a management plan can vary, the process comprises six steps to implement actions to achieve the management goals, namely: Why are we here? What have we got? What are the important features? What are the important influences? What do we want? What must we do? Based on general requirements for effectiveness tracking in protected areas, a specific Ramsar Site Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool (R-METT) has been formally adopted by the Ramsar Convention. This is designed to be simple and rapid to assist site managers and to facilitate wide uptake of the approach. The evaluation questions in R-METT were designed to be easily answered by the management authority without any additional research or intense and costly data collection. © 2023 Elsevier Inc.   • Description: PurposeA slew of conventional change models and theories appear in the extant change literature. Despite being theoretically sound, these a priori structured approaches to organizational change management have questionable application given the rapidly changing business environments. Novel approaches, offering greater flexibility to fast changing external conditions, may offer superior models to organizational change and organizational transformation (OT) in particular. In this paper, the application of a complex adaptive system (CAS) framework, from complexity theory (CT), for managing OT is assessed theoretically.Design/methodology/approachA conceptual paper.FindingsA review of the extant change literature suggests that current approaches and models for organizational change are limited in their ability to reflect OT responses to today's highly dynamic external environments. New models are required to inform and guide organizations. A new model, i.e. CAS framework, is deemed suitable to guide the OT implementation.Originality/valueThis paper critically analyses different approaches to change management, consolidates CAS framework, reviews its applications in the field of management and presents a case for CAS's application for the management of OT.

  • Description: With the recent popularity of applying large-scale deep neural network-based models for natural language processing (NLP), attention to develop methods for text data augmentation is at its peak, since the limited size of training data tends to significantly affect the accuracy of these models. To this end, we propose a novel text data augmentation technique called Intelligent Masking with Optimal Substitutions Text Data Augmentation (IMOSA). IMOSA, developed for labelled sentences, can identify the most favourable sentences and locate the appropriate word combinations in a particular sentence to replace and generate synthetic sentences with a meaning closer to the original sentence, while also significantly increasing the diversity of the dataset. We demonstrate that the proposed technique notably improves the performance of classifiers based on attention-based transformer models through the extensive experiments for five different text classification tasks which are performed under the low data regime in a context-Aware NLP setting. The analysis clearly shows that IMOSA effectively generates more sentences using favourable original examples and completely ignores undesirable examples. Furthermore, the experiments carried out confirm IMOSA's ability to add diversity to the augmented dataset using multiple distinct masking patterns against the same original sentence, which remarkably adds variety to the training dataset. IMOSA consistently outperforms the two key masked language model-based text data augmentation techniques, and demonstrates a robust performance against the critical challenging NLP tasks. © 2023 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).   • Description: This work presents a mechanistic model to simulate the growth of a sodium bubble from nucleation to departure in sodium pool boiling. A previously developed and validated heat transfer sub-model is coupled to a force balance sub-model to predict the growth rate and departure radius of a sodium bubble. The model accounts for the change in the contact angle of a bubble as it grows, and the shrinkage of the bubble base prior to departure. The developed model is used to quantify and analyse the heat transfer from different regions, i.e. the microlayer, the macrolayer, the thermal boundary layer and the bulk liquid surrounding the bubble. In addition, bubble growth rate and departure radius are calculated for different values of wall superheat, rate of change of contact angle and bulk liquid temperature. It is found that the departure radius of a sodium bubble is on the order of a few centimetres and the wall superheat has a significant influence on the shape of a sodium bubble at departure. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.

  • Description: Physical practice is the cornerstone of acquiring and developing movement skills in physical education and sport. However, research has suggested that psychological tools, such as mental imagery (MI), could effectively supplement a learner's physical practice schedule. MI is the mental simulation of a movement or situation in the absence of an overt physical output. Previous reviews have established the efficacy of MI for improving motor skills in sport. Further investigation, however, will help strengthen previous findings by focusing exclusively on studies that apply MI programs for the development of sport-specific motor skills. The purpose of this paper is to examine the overall effectiveness of MI programs for developing sport-specific motor skills and investigate program principles that may moderate the efficacy of MI programs, such as practice type, skill level, skill complexity, performance measures, duration, practice setting, and session frequency. By examining key program variables for MI, this review seeks to provide practical recommendations for physical educators and sports coaches on how they might effectively design and deliver a MI program to develop sport-specific motor skills. The review was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. To provide practical recommendations for physical educators and sports coaches for effective MI programs, the following moderator variables were examined using subgroup analysis: (1) skill complexity, (2) skill level, (3) program duration, (4) session frequency, (5) MI practice type, and (6) practice context. The PEDro scale was used to assess study quality. The presence of publication bias was evaluated using the Trim and Fill method to calculate an adjusted and unbiased overall effect. The systematic review included 36 studies (n = 1449). A random-effects meta-analysis of standardised mean differences yielded an initial 135 individual effect sizes. A composite approach accounted for statistical dependence between effects and yielded 58 individual effects for further analysis. Analysis indicated that MI has a significant effect on performance (g = 0.476). Further analysis revealed significant effects on performance outcomes for MI combined with physical practice and MI alone (g = 0.579 and 0.298, respectively). Subgroup analyses revealed these beneficial effects be moderated by skill complexity, elements of skill performance, and MI delivery type. These results presented in our meta-analysis highlight the overall benefit of MI practice for developing sport-specific motor skills. However, there is a paucity of research on the effects of MI on complex skills and in physical education and sport coaching contexts. Although most studies presented in this review were conducted in controlled research settings, there are clear parallels between the skills practiced in these studies and those implemented in physical education and sport coaching. The efficacy of MI alone presents a potentially beneficial tool when physical practice is not possible or when physical training needs reduction (e.g. in-season sports competition). Therefore, it is encouraged that physical educators and sports coaches collaborate with sport psychology practitioners to investigate the efficacy of the several MI program variables presented in this review.

  • Description: Data explosion in the information society drives people to develop more effective ways to extract meaningful information. Extracting semantic information and relational information has emerged as a key mining primitive in a wide variety of practical applications. Existing research on relation mining has primarily focused on explicit connections and ignored underlying information, e.g., the latent entity relations. Exploring such information (defined as implicit relationships in this article) provides an opportunity to reveal connotative knowledge and potential rules. In this article, we propose a novel research topic, i.e., how to identify implicit relationships across heterogeneous networks. Specially, we first give a clear and generic definition of implicit relationships. Then, we formalize the problem and propose an efficient solution, namely MIRROR, a graph convolutional network (GCN) model to infer implicit ties under explicit connections. MIRROR captures rich information in learning node-level representations by incorporating attributes from heterogeneous neighbors. Furthermore, MIRROR is tolerant of missing node attribute information because it is able to utilize network structure. We empirically evaluate MIRROR on four different genres of networks, achieving state-of-the-art performance for target relations mining. The underlying information revealed by MIRROR contributes to enriching existing knowledge and leading to novel domain insights. © 2023 Association for Computing Machinery.

  • Description: Backscatter communication (BackCom) is an intriguing technology that enables devices to transmit information by reflecting environmental radio frequency signals while consuming ultra-low energy. Applying BackCom in the Internet of things (IoT) networks can effectively address the power-unsustainability issue of energy-constraint devices. Considering many practical IoT applications, networks are finite-scale and devices are needed to be deployed at hotspot regions organized in clusters to cooperate for specific tasks. This paper considers finite-scale clustered backscatter communication networks (F-CBackCom Nets). To ensure communications, this paper establishes a theoretic model to analyze the communication connectivity of F-CBackCom Nets. Different from prior studies analyzing the connectivity with a focus on the transmission pair located at the center of the network, this paper analyzes the connectivity of a transmission pair located in an arbitrary location, because the performance of transmission pairs potentially varies with their network location. Extensive simulations validate the accuracy of our analytical model. Our results show that the connectivity of a transmission pair can be affected by its network location. Our analytical model and results can offer beneficial implications for constructing F-CBackCom Nets. © 2023 IEEE.

  • Description: A mechanistic model to study the growth of a bubble from nucleation to departure in pool boiling is proposed in this work taking into account the change in shape of a bubble as it grows. The model consists of three sub-models: (a) a heat transfer sub-model to compute the bubble growth rate based on the evaporation of the microlayer, the macrolayer, the thermal boundary layer and the bulk liquid surrounding the bubble; (b) a force sub-model to calculate the forces acting on a bubble; and (c) a contact angle and bottleneck sub-model to account for the change in shape of the bubble. Analysis of past experiments on bubble growth in nucleate pool boiling has shown that the shape of a bubble transitions from a truncated sphere to a balloon-like shape before departure. In the present work, a novel method to model this balloon-like shape of the bubble as a truncated sphere atop a conical bottleneck is presented. The model is validated against high-fidelity CFD simulations and pool boiling experiments of water and methanol from literature. In particular, the bubble departure time, wall temperature, bubble shape and microlayer profile obtained from the model are in good agreement with experimental and CFD results. © 2022

Multiheaded deep learning chatbot for increasing production and marketing

  • Description: Some businesses on product development prefer to use a chatbot for judging the customer's view. Today, the ability of a chatbot to consider the context is challenging due to its technical nature. Sometimes, it may misjudge the context, making the wrong decision in predicting the product's originality in the market. This task of chatbot helps the enterprise make huge profits from accurate predictions. However, chatbots may commit errors in dialogs and bring inappropriate responses to users, reducing the confidentiality of product and marketing information. This, in turn, reduces the enterprise gain and imposes cost complications on businesses. To improve the performance of chatbots, AI models are used based on deep learning concepts. This research proposes a multi-headed deep neural network (MH-DNN) model for addressing the logical and fuzzy errors caused by retrieval chatbot models. This model cuts down on the error raised from the information loss. Our experiments extensively trained the model on a large Ubuntu dialog corpus. The recall evaluation scores showed that the MH-DNN approach slightly outperformed selected state-of-the-art retrieval-based chatbot approaches. The results obtained from the MHDNN augmentation approach were pretty impressive. In our proposed work, the MHDNN algorithm exhibited accuracy rates of 94% and 92%, respectively, with and without the help of the Seq2Seq technique. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd
