- Abstract
- This chapter outlines in broad terms the type of professional training required for students to enter the social work profession in Australia. Attention is given to its context in the higher education sector, its program content including theory, skills and practicum and outlines the challenges for the 21stcentury for graduates. In Australia there are two levels of professional training with different entry pathways. The first is the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) which is a 4 year undergraduate program and the second is Master in Social Work Qualifying (MSW(Q) which is a 2 year post graduate degree.
