- Robert McClure (1813-1842) came to Port Albert in 1841. He died on 21st March 1842 as a result of exposure experienced on an overland trip from Port Albert to Melbourne. He was the first white man to die in the new settlement.; Item held by Gippsland and Regional Studies Collection, Federation University Australia.
